Fantacist jailed for faking military career.

John Livesey, 57, had been found guilty at Peterborough Crown Court of perverting the course of justice.

For decades Livesey, known as Jack, told friends, colleagues and his closest family that he had served with distinction in the Parachute Regiment.

He even claimed to have advised production crews working on the film Saving Private Ryan and TV series Band of Brothers.

In fact, his Army career amounted to a stint in the Catering Corps between 1971 and 1974.

This will be about the 15th time I have have heard about a case like this.
It seems to be some kind of actual syndrome. And the bugger is invariably something to do with the ACC. There was a guy knocking about in London in my yoof who was exactly the same. I  always thought he was a fanny, going on about helping the Police with their training and going up the firing range to maintain his 'marksman' status, but a friend of mine had a thing for him, so I and her other mates suffered in silence. He was  supply chef but he carried around a Parachute Regiment beret in his car. Now he was canny because he stopped short of claiming that he had been in the SAS. Turns out the only way he had served the paras was when he handed them their egg, chips and beans. No offence to the ACC, they do a valuable job but why oh why do so many of their ranks want to be a Para. This guy was at least believable visually because he was rippling with muscles. He got his
comeuppence by accident really. He was unfortunate to be in the wrong pub at the wrong time and got outed by a very quiet guy who we had no idea had been in the army let alone the paras. It was great entertainment really because it just built up slowly as a normal conversation and then escalated into a full blown public humiliation for him.
I'll never forget the way he spluttered his way through his lies and excuses and then left. Next day he disappeared, never to be seen again.
Now when I hear someone bragging about their military connections I know for a fact they are either, at worst lying or at best exaggerating. Only complete fannies need to boost themselves publicly like that. It's the quiet ones you have to watch.

Why should it have made a difference as to whether he was banged up or not?

I think he got done for perverting the course of justice. He used his fake career as evidence of his character when he was done for benefit fraud some years earlier, Soorie.

I remember Major Ron's ARRSE site used to regularly 'out' these Walts as they called them.

The lengths that some of them went to in  order to do things like take part in the Cenotaph parade on Remembrance Sunday.

If they would just put that same amount of energy into something else, they'd all be better off!

Aye, sorry, whit I meant was why did his supposed career keep him out of jail in the first place?
