Creeping Jesus

It got oot tae play last night.

haha.

It got inty a big bloozy jam at the Clutha open mic.

Ah don't often get involved in pub open mics, usually because of the preponderance of up their own arse poor quality mumbling 'song'writers, or the number of Private Willie McBrides ridin on then wishin they wur back home in Derry an  knockin on heavens door whilst rollin in their sweet baby's arms.

Last night wis different, an fun.
Onny

... jist so long as you don't call it a gig.

Surely nobody would be that duplicitous?

It sounds like the sort of thing that unscrupulous people might do to try to boost their credibility by saying they've played at such and such a venue, when in fact they've done an open stage spot for which they've volunteered rather than being booked?

Is that the sort of thing you mean Onny?

I'd imagine that they'd be found out rather quickly and become a laughing stock, and  not only in the West End of Glasgow.
Onny

It is indeed.

It may not even be about volunteering. I've heard it suggested that some people claim their elderly mother will be able to publicise the event in "The West".

Bollox of course but some people will swallow anything.
Rid Sonja

Och, folk don't need tae be livin in the Westend ae Glesga tae become laffin stocks when it comes tae makin unsubstantiatit claims uv possessin a certain musical popularity CJ!   Naw, naw, aw they need tae dae is be associatit wi the westend ae Glesga  by association wi the many dafties thit live in the Westend hinterlands.

And thur's urrer ways tae become a laffin stock.  Wan way is tae be a Westend Chatterer and talk the talk aboot heinous nature ae 'Celebrity culture' then act like a daftie tryin tae spot a celebrity in the street - a 'celeb'  who's only therr coz he's daein a day's work n who wid prolly wish fur nutters who stalk him while he's therr tae get tae fuck and hiv a life ae thur ain instead ae tryin tae aquire kudos by disturbin his day.  ...

Funnily enuff, ah wiz at a talk the urrer night and the guy on the stage wiz talkin aboot  a 'literate culture' and an 'educated culture' and how those two things urny particularly connected.  Yes, many people in this country ur literate; disny mean thur educatit but.

Ah wunner why such a daftie made me think of whit that man wiz talkin aboot? Hmmmm <strokes chin>

It'd need a very broad definition of hinterlands, one that would even shame an estate agent, to encompass the residential location of many of those who'd seek to be associated with the West End ..... and that's before we begin to consider who amongst them are actually Glaswegians.
Rid Sonja

Ah think the % ae actual, bona fide Glaswegians living therr is in single figures.
Onny

It's an area which seems to have more than a fair share of the tired, the poor, the huddled masses but few try to claim they're actually Glasgwegian.
