Lowe Syndrome Charity Concert, Coatbridge, Saturday 5th Sept

from the Dark Side

Some of you will remember we ran a concert last year for Lowe Syndrome Funds at East End Park in SunnyD.

This year we move the venue to the west coast.

The Concert this year will take place in the Georgian Hotel Coatbridge, on Saturday the 5th September, eight till late.

The lineup this year will include (in alphabetty order)

Catskinners

Clark & King

Dave Fetherstone

The Icing (Claire and Gavin Livingstone)

Maeve O'Boyle (Linn recording artist with new CD out).

(others t.b.c.)

The concert is being run in conjunction with The Rotary Club of Coatbridge and Airdrie, and intimate gigs.

Money raised will be split between Lowe Syndrome and a local charity nominated by the Rotary Club.

Tickets 8.00.

and tremendously humbled that this fine line up would chose to donate their time and talent to raising some dosh for charities.  cheers

I can't speak for who the Rotary club will nominate, but as the newly appointed secretary of the Lowe Syndrome Association based in the USA, and halfway through a second term serving as a Director of the Board, I can't express how much this means to us to promote awareness of Lowe's in our own country and raise some money too.

Ah Coatbridge where I first started singing all those many years ago. Sounds like a great line-up guys.

By happy coincidence, a parent whose son is the closest Lowe's boy in age to my Joff - Adam is just over three weeks younger than Joff - has posted a montage on Youtube yesterday of some of the families who attend the Lowe's conferences. Adam is on the first page of the montage, the third young man you see, all dapper in a suit and tie.

Of course I'm dead biased, but what a fabulous group of boys and men with Lowe's. Joff is in there with his kilt thumbright You will notice there are a lot of differences in their physical appearances but there's a lot in common too. Hard to comprehend sometimes that all this syndrome is down to just one enzyme being astray in the body.

everybody say ahhh

Thanks for posting that Effie, Since Joff's the only LS person I've met, it's given me a better perspective.

I put a notice about the gig up on the Gaughan forum too. Every little helps!

I know why we do this, Effie, but after watching that, I want to do it bigger and better each year.

By the way if anyone is unclear of the concept, the money raised goes to the LSA, not any individual, so all the guys in the montage benifit, if only in a small way from our efforts.

It's on Hidden Glasgow too.
Effie

I will be setting up a First Giving page as I did last year and I'll post a link for it when it's done.

This helps describes the event but also ensures a transparent and the most efficient transfer of funds directly to the Lowe Syndrome Association, which is a USA non-profit incorporated charity.

If you think it's moving to see these young men in montage, can you imagine how it is every time we go to the conference?
...there's Dan ( one of our oldest LS men at 43 ) with his ever-increasing entourage of young lady followers, Dickson with his very courtly manners and likes kissing the backs of ladies hands, wee baby Dylan with his bright blue specs, Aaron who's learned to play rugby and the bodhran, Luke who gets really anxious if he's not got a task to do like setting the table, Adam, who likes to toddle up to the adults in his walker frame, suss them out and if somehow you don't measure up, gives you a swift kick on your shins.  clown

Like I say, I'm dead biased!

The Catskinners
Clark & King
The Icing
David Stevenson - Scottish songwriter based in Cambridge
Adriana

We're also hoping to see Gifford Lind and the gang from Dunfermline Folk Club who put so much into arranging and performing in last year's concert at Dunfermline Athletic's stadium.

Good luck to all concerned with tomorrow night's show. I wish I could be there!
Effie

I have to update this with a big apology for not keeping up with life on the internet over the past two months or so...and I've only just finished editing the firstgiving page for anyone who kindly cares to donate directly to the LSA as well as keep fully public the amount raised for the LSA on the night.

As it is a US site, you would be donating in dollars which gets converted to sterling on your statement.
A $10 donation will cost you roughly 6.10 using today's exchange rates.

I am so looking forward to it, well all of Team Fisher are and we are very sorry to miss you Lorna...I know you'd have been there if not for your current stramashes with the Immigration wallahs in the yooessay.

We promise to take photos and video.
