Re stringing a guitar

heh heh, we're all guitar daft in our house just now.
See us, we're beginners at all this so forgive the daft lassie questions.

Mr Effie went out and bought a set of strings for my cheap as chips acoustic guitar today which probably exceed the value it...heh heh
as they say in the interweb...SRSLY...

Anyway now they're on and they look lovely and shiny, but the nylon ones don't stay in tune for more than a minute or so...is this normal? and is there anyway to improve them?

Yeah. They'll stretch for a bit. A good 'thrash' is supposed to be good for getting the stretch out of them.

I've even heard (nonsense?) that pro's pre-stretch strings then take them back off the instrument and back into the bags for use on stage. Ready to play straight away.

If you give me a call tomorrow on the mobile, I'll talk you through a fool-proof process to minimise string-slip.

Especially on nylon strings.

Aye, coz she's going to need the guitar this weekend, I'm thinking! bounce

A good tip for stringing any guitar, is to set up an ironing board and us it as a work surface. You'll find it's much easier and quicker.
