I second everything everyone has said. I am one of the lucky ones that knew him. I'm still lucky because I know Mrs CJ. I've been away from Glasgow and one of the things that used to make me laugh and cheer me up when I missed it was remembering all those fabulous nights around the CJs. I used to make him play and sing the song about the WPC with the stick. I still don't know the title, but CJ would oblige and sing it and I would leave that place with a sore jaw from laughing. What a guy he was,a gentleman and a scholar. I'm gutted.

My condolences to all Kenny's family. I never got to meet him but chatted via PM on First Foot a few times years back.

I mind saying to him that I'd often popped into the bar at St Andrews on Wednesday nights circa 2003 and mentioned a few folk playin and singin there that I thought were also members of FF.

Anyways, I told him there was a big fella I still couldnae place, bit baldy, plays acoustic guitar and sometimes mandolin and sits beside Steven Clarke often...

"Cannae think who that is..." CJ/Kenny says...

Years later I saw picture of Kenny and realised it was him and he was just pullin ma leg...

Back in the FF days his picture posts and stories often had me laughing out loud, resulting in funny looks from my wife...

I'm gutted to hear this.  CJ was a voice of reason in this crazy world we inhabit for too short a time.

Well done, the wan-fittied Lebanese, then. cheers        I am enjoying reading some old bits of sage advice.  All so very clever and sensible, I really do think something like the "Sunday Post" should print them in its advice column.

(Can't remember if that was Francis Gay or the Hon man or the "doctor" or what, but I do think it would up their circulation figures a bit.)

Tomorrow I take my last journey with Ken.  Thereafter I must walk without his steady, gentle presence at my side.

There will be many good, generous, kind and true friends to help me say a goodbye.

I see that some false friends are attempting to make themselves feel better by extending me good wishes and thoughts.  They won't..They may think they are worth more than my utter contempt but they're not.  They are merely shit beneath my shoe: a pariah to me.  They will always be such.

But you have had many many journeys with Ken.   All very good and valuable memories.  He is not dead:  he lives in you and young Miss RS.

Wishing you strength for tomorrow and for the years to come.   Smilie_PDT

To the plank of wood Neil and all of the other worthless 'I was a friend of Ken' wannabees over in the Byre:

So the fucker will 'make allowances' for me, will he?  Fuck right off with a ragman's trumpet as Ken would say!!  And I'm a 'bitter nasty bitch'.  Oh yes I fucking am nasty, you supercillious bumpkin!  Ken was always the better , more forgiving person between the two of us.  Where he would shake his head sadly at the stupidity of you lot, I just knew you had proven your unworthiness to be called 'friend' and that, with such foundations to your collaborations, you all deserved each other like peapods in a bed.

No way are any of you welcome in any dedication or tribute made to Ken. I have no interest in reading any of your hypocritical and affected 'condolances' while you continue to take nasty little swipes at him and about FF.  That any of you think you have any place on the site  that Fittie produced in honour of his good and loved friend, Ken Caird, just shows the level of  depravity and stupidity to which you will happily descend.  You don't get to artlessly call yourselves Ken's friends coz I know just how monumentally untrue that appellation is.  You were never true friends when he was alive; you can only ever be fucked faced arseholes now that you try again to rewrite history.  Rewriting history IS something you ARE all very good at, mind you.  But not this time.

Fuck right off the lot of you - and, unlike Ken, I am going to tell you what to think on this one instance:  I want you all to think you are worthless individuals who wronged and maligned a very decent, honourable man who had integrity beyond anything any of you can comprehend.  It'll be a difficult exercise for you all,b ut maybe the practice will help you to learn to think better.  Then again, I'm thinking that's probably an unattainable outcome for all of you.   How surprising - not!

I see the CJ thread's been deleted 'without explanation or comment' in The Byre.  Good move Dosser!  But you cannot honour CJ in whichever shape or form.  You can only hope to attempt to make some sort of recompense in your own minscule psyche to help yourselves feel better. It won't help.  You can't buy the kind of friendship and loyalty that Ken offered you all.  Know that and live with it.

I do not forget nor forgive any of you, but especially do I remember Dosser's personal glib hypocrisy behind the scenes during the time when Ken refused to leave FF to the likes of himself and the insect that is Clash.  Fittie left FF in Ken's hands for very good reasons - reason's that you and your ilk will never understand due to your Lilliputian outlook on llife.  Small folk can often surprise me - but small-minded folk always remain hidebound. Guess which category you lot come into: no matter how much you try to disguise it, it will always be exposed in the end.

I'm sure friends will understand just why  I was so incensed by the various hypocrisies exposed by false friends and why I was absolutely opposed to allowing them to think they had any place within Ken's huge circle of friends who are genuinely affected by his dying.  They were a cancer which I was determined to have excised from that wonderful plenum of people to whom Ken meant so much.

I will now return to my presently 'normal' self.

Thank you all  here who have expressed sympathy and regret.

Ken's obituary was published in yesterday's 'Herald'.  It's a fine tribute to him.

http://www.heraldscotland.com/comment/obituaries/kenny-caird.18225215

Of course it leaves out the almost constant twinkle in his eye and ready laughter; the way he tilted his head when listening to you; the way he held his plectrum between his lips while he sorted out his synth controls; the way he walked with his feet splayed at 45 degree angles, carrying the tricks of his musical genius; his hat tilted jist so to shield his eyes from the sun; his quick wit and love of silly songs; his critical thinking abilities and his in depth understanding of logical fallacies; his love of cooking Chinese food, sea-food and curries;his love of sharing food and beer and cocktails that he had devised; his always walking barefoot in the house; his disdain for wearing labels on the outside of his clothes..... and sooo much more...
