I discovered, yesterday, that someone has reintroduced the Eko Ranger. Yes you can get your hands on one of these iconic logs for less than £130. I had a quick look at one and it appeared to have all the weight, over engineering and solidity of the original. The interior strutting still looks like roof timbers.
I know these things were never 'great' guitars and many people recall them as their first 'proper' acoustic but it was nice to see one in pristine condition.
BTW, there's also a cutaway available and, I believe, a 12 string.

My first acoustic was a Ranger 12-string - it cost me £10 from a bloke in Penycae, weighed a ton and withstood 20 years of chronic abuse, until I gave it away to a friend's son, who wanted to learn how to play. God knows where it is now, but I'll bet it's still going strong - great guitars.

My guitar was a Yamaha FG335 which, because I couldn't get in tune, ended up making a lovely wall ornament until someone came along and started to play it...it's still up on my wall but it still gets played (when he's not playing with the love of his life..his Godin, or his 2nd love: his Simon and Patrick..)  |

That's funny. I'd always assumed the guitarist in question was heterosexual. Takes all sorts, eh?

The twelve string is a pile of shite. I tried one not long ago. £199! For the same price I got a Tanglewood 12 string electro acoustic which plays a hell of a lot better.

30-odd years ago I owned a 12-string Ranger electra, it was terrific to play, with a great sound amped or accoustic.I loved it.
